It may be a bit of a mystery to those not involved in a speaking ministry how it actually happens. Do words drop straight from heaven into the mouth of the speaker? Is there hours of preparation? Do speakers practise, or use material again? Or more likely, apart from being grateful they don't have to get up and speak, these people don't give it much thought at all. The reality is that this ministry is a mixture of each, inspiration and perspiration!! Control and mystery!! Sometimes the experience of one week speaking with fluency, ease and a sense of the Spirit's strong presence and next the event being a struggle and muddled.    This happened to me recently with a Sunday message flowing with ease and clarity but, after the next event at a breakfast, I left feeling my talk had been jumbled. It was not helped by both data clips which were crucial to the message not working in spite of testing immediately before. My winging it seemed to jump from one point to another without coherence. Oh well, such is the earthy reality of this ministry, sometimes you 'lose some'.   What I have learned however that even through the most floundering message or ministry in our estimation God can speak to others with power. Like a time when a man came to me for marriage counselling. It lasted only two sessions and was discontinued. I thought it had been a failure until I got a letter from the wife thanking me for the time with her husband who she described as a new man. The important thing here is the innate power in God's Word, it speaks in it's own right like powerful seed. The sower does prepare heart and message diligently and learns over time that the Word sown has a power beyond his presentation and as the prophet Isaiah discovered, it never returns empty.
