Many years ago I sang in the Naenae Salvation Army Songsters (choir) . I don't remember much about the time except that I struggled to hold on to the tuning for my part. There was one particular song that does stay in my memory however, or rather, just a phrase. '... what though the work you planned, shall by another hand, glorify Me...?' The phrase drew attention to the fact that servants of the Lord are a team. All contribute to the win and who scores the goal isn't important. Together we win. I guess the phrase was highlighting the possibility that ego and pride can spoil what should be a celebration. The experience of King David in the Old Testament comes to mind. He had the good idea to build a Temple worthy of God, that would be a centre of worship for the nation. When told by the Lord that he was not the man to build it, but his son was the man designated David's response was 'team'. Rather than sulk, argue or undermine David did this... He thanked God it would be done, personally contributed significant resources for it's construction and wholeheartedly encouraged and endorsed the man chosen. Wonderful!! To finish the sentiment in the song...'what is important is that God is glorified, His best plan is completed and the people of God rejoice together...' As Paul observed in his New Testament writing, '...some sow, some reap, but God causes the growth...' As the team of God we each play our part. One may score the goal but only as a result of the earlier skilled passing of other team members. Well done team!!!
