One of my most valued possessions is a Salvation Army Song book given to me in 1974 by the Naenae Salvation Army Youth Group that I led. The songs from that book played a profound part in my formation as I sang and imbued those wonderful lyrics and music.
One of those songs was by remarkable blind writer Fanny Crosby.
She had a gift of presenting Gospel truths in clear and powerful song, writing over 8000 songs. Many have been sung in congregations all over the world. Fanny was also an early advocate for education for blind people and was the first woman to speak in the United States Senate in 1844.
This is a song about the great mercy of God which Fanny based on the promise of Isaiah 1:18.
