Life and ministry as a pilgrim can be both exhilarating and exhausting, a reality seen in Jesus Himself.

Luke records Jesus experiencing depletion when He stated that He felt virtue/power going from Him in the course of ministry, and prolonged ministry multiplied that demand on His whole being.  Prolonged ministry without relief can bring a pilgrim to dangerous emptiness.

Jesus Himself recognised this and the Gospels record many times when He took time for refilling. Times of private prayer, solitude in the silence of nature, fellowship in the home of friends etc.

There is a beautiful song in my old Salvation Army song book about the restoration of depletion.

Written in the late 1930's by Salvation Army leader Albert Orsborn, it records his reflections while visiting hot mineral springs reputed for healing in the small New Zealand town of Te Aroha. They prompted him to think of an even greater spring of healing, that of the Holy Spirit.

It is a deep yet pragmatic song, leading the depleted pilgrim's soul to flourish as a garden again. I'll let the song speak for itself, along with a little video that features New Zealand waters.

Be refreshed dear pilgrim.
